Issue #185 Becoming a Water Sommelier: The Journey and The Upcoming Fine Water Summit

Hello, friends!

ย Itโ€™s Ashley, your Waterlady, and today Iโ€™m excited to share something really specialโ€”something thatโ€™s been close to my heart as I take another step in my journey to becoming a certified water sommelier.

Youโ€™ve probably heard the term โ€œwater sommelierโ€ before, but what does it really mean? Is it just a fancy title, or is there more to it? Letโ€™s dive in!

What Does it Mean to be a Water Sommelier?

A water sommelier is someone who has a deep understanding of waterโ€”its origins, its unique mineral content, its taste, and its ability to elevate meals and experiences. Just like a wine sommelier can identify subtle notes in wine, a water sommelier is trained to detect the differences between various waters, from the mineral composition to the mouthfeel and even the waterโ€™s origin story. Itโ€™s a fascinating world, and I canโ€™t wait to share it with all of you!

Now, let me be clear: While a certification isnโ€™t absolutely necessary to appreciate water, it certainly deepens the knowledge and respect for this precious resource we often take for granted. The goal isnโ€™t to make water sound โ€œfancyโ€ or inaccessible. Itโ€™s about fostering a deeper appreciation and understanding for what weโ€™re drinkingโ€”something that is essential for life on Earth.

Iโ€™ve always loved learning, and my journey toward becoming a certified water sommelier has been about uncovering the hidden stories and science behind the waters we sip. Understanding how different watersโ€”from sparkling to still, from Icelandic to Italianโ€”are sourced, how they vary in mineral content, and how they affect our hydration and well-being is truly eye-opening. Itโ€™s a way to elevate our daily hydration routine and connect to the Earth in a more meaningful way.

The Fine Water Summit: A Big Moment in the Water World

Iโ€™m thrilled to announce that Iโ€™ll be a judge at this yearโ€™s Fine Water Summit in Atlanta, Georgia! The summit is one of the premier events in the world of fine waters, bringing together top water experts, producers, and enthusiasts from around the globe. It's a fantastic opportunity to share and learn about the newest trends, innovations, and developments in the world of bottled waters.

This year, Iโ€™m particularly excited to bring you some amazing content from the summit. As a judge, Iโ€™ll have the privilege of tasting some of the finest waters in the worldโ€”waters that have been carefully selected for their unique qualities, including mineral composition, taste, and purity. The event will feature a series of tastings, workshops, and educational sessions that will explore everything from how to identify the flavors in a sip of water to understanding what makes each water source unique.

And yes, thereโ€™s more! While Iโ€™ll be attending the summit as a judge, Iโ€™m also planning to share some amazing news with you all. This is an exciting time for the world of water, and I canโ€™t wait to spill (pun intended) all the details about new brands, trends, and perhaps even some surprise announcements. Stay tunedโ€”you wonโ€™t want to miss this!

Why Being a Water Sommelier Matters

You might be wondering: why should we care about being water sommeliers or understanding water on a deeper level? Well, hereโ€™s the thing: Water is the most precious resource we have on Earth. Yet, itโ€™s often undervalued, underappreciated, and even misunderstood. By learning to recognize different water types, we not only enhance our drinking experience, but we also foster a deeper respect for water conservation and sustainability.

Each water has a story to tellโ€”from the pristine springs of the Alps to the volcanic depths of Hawaii. Water sommeliers help to share these stories and educate consumers on the best ways to enjoy these waters responsibly. Itโ€™s about more than just hydrationโ€”itโ€™s about honoring the Earth and its precious natural resources.

Iโ€™m on a mission to help people appreciate the complexity and beauty of natural water, from the fine details of mineral composition to the broader ecological impact of water sourcing. Whether youโ€™re a casual water drinker or someone with a deep passion for understanding the liquid that sustains life, my goal is to guide you on your own water journey. I hope to open your eyes to the wonders of the water world and share some fun, educational content along the way!

Join Me in Atlanta!

If youโ€™re attending the Fine Water Summit, be sure to say hello! Iโ€™ll be sharing insights throughout the event, and I canโ€™t wait to meet fellow water enthusiasts who are just as passionate about discovering the world of water as I am.
